6/24/2012 - Minister Francesco Profumo at Taormina FilmFest 2012
Yesterday Italian Minister for Public Education, Francesco Profumo accepted the invitation of the festival General Manager Tiziana Rocca and of Fabio Longo, who is in charge of the Campus section, to take part to some festival events. The Minister attended the opening soirée at the Teatro Antico and some other convivial meetings such as the opening cocktail and dinner which took place in the attractive location of La Plage restaurant. The Minister praised the organisation of the “Campus” section, which is attended by 800 students of Sicilian universities. He appreciated very much the attention devoted to the projection of the short film “Panta Rei” directed by Francesca Fini, which was made by the Istituto Superiore “Pugliatti” of Taormina. The Minister said to the audience: “This is the most complete path which leads young people to start their work and to know cinema in the most exhaustive way”. Furthermore, the Minister’s wife thanked Tiziana Rocca for the wonderful evening they spent in Taormina, capital of Sicilian tourism. The film – made by the student – actors of the Istituto Superiore di Istruzione of Taormina, will be shown on Wednesday 27th June at 10.00 a.m. in Room “A” of Palazzo dei Congressi, in the frame of the “Campus” section of this year’s Taormina FilmFest. “Panta Rei ...and it seems to flow well – said some days ago Schoolmaster Luigi Napoli – we didn’t think to reach this peak when we started this adventure. I am happy for the students, for the school and for Licia Siligato and Francesco Parisi, the teachers who have been our students’ tutors”. The short film, financed by Miur in the frame of the national project “Intercultura TV” is about the delicate and contemporary topic of integration, which is narrated and played by the students of Pugliatti school. The students have also analyzed the Sicilian, Greek, Arab and Norman dominations in Taormina, mixing history - characterized by wars and greed of power – with the feelings of love of men and women belonging to those societies, so different one from the other and which are at the basis of culture and history of Sicilian peoples. It has been announced that the projection will be attended by the representatives of USR Sicily, the Manager of USP of Messina and the General Director of the Direzione Generale per lo Studente at Miur. This activity is part of the educational process of the Istituto Superiore which is based in Trappitello (a municipal division of Taormina) in Arancio Street.
