(18/06/09) The 12th edition of Womad in Sicily was cancelled. World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) is an organization founded in 1980 by Peter Gabriel, Thomas Brooman, and Bob Hooton. It was founded on the basis that many others would share their enthusiasm for music from other cultures, if only they had the opportunity to listen to some of the global sounds.The concept evolved from an idea Gabriel had at a concert involving an African group. ((28/04/09) Two of the most important appointments of Taormina Arte with the great Operas this summer in the Ancient Theater are: Aida (7, 9 and 11 August) and Cavallleria Rusticana (19 and 21 August). Enrico Castiglione, for the third year artistic director of the section Music and Dance, have, in fact, aimed a lot for his placard to the return of the beautiful song and of the magic evenings. Jethro Tull return in Italy to continue the party of the 40 years of career, finished in the 2008.

(24/03/09) Loreena Isabel Irene McKennitt(born February 17, 1957) is a Canadian singer, composer, harpist and pianist most famous for writing, recording and performing world music with Celtic and Middle Eastern themes. McKennitt is well known for her voice. McKennitt was born in Morden, Manitoba of Irish and Scottish descent to parents Jack and Irene McKennitt. She moved to Stratford, Ontario in 1981, where she lives.She will be in Taormina for her only concert in Italy. [more]

After the successes of the last years the Committee Taormina Arte composed by the Mayor of Taormina Mauro Passalacqua, by the President of the Regional Province in Messina Giovanni Ricevuto and by the Mayor of Messina Giuseppe Buzzanca has approved with advance the programs by the artistic directors Deborah Young (Cinema) and Enrico Castiglione (Music&Ballet). GIUSEPPE MIGNECO EXHIBITION |
(13/11/08) After the first anthological exhibition in Messina in 1983, Taormina Arte together with the strong decision of the President of the Province Messina, Giovanni Ricevuto, will dedicate next year from July 26 to November 1 in the Carmine Church an exhibition to Giuseppe Migneco, a well-known painter born in Messina in 1908 and lives in Milan.He grew up in Ponteschiavo, enjoying the freedom of a happy childhood between the sea and the countryside.This period remains in his mind as the memory of a lost paradise and returns afterwards as a leitmotif in many of his pictures.
