“Madeleine Suite” taken from the prose “Mary of Magdala, or Salvation” from FIRES written by Margherite Yourcenar.
The vital and charming personage of Mary of Magdala, John the Evangelist’s fiancé, abandoned by him to follow Jesus is staged by Mariello Lo Sardo and Ralph Towner in the moving version by Yourcenar.
On the stage Mary of Magdala, a wise and old woman, a mystical and carnal one, lives again in a new interpretation based on the traditional apocryphal version, a woman whose life moves between love and sex without joining in an only man.
Surrounded by landscapes and sounds created for this text and live played by Ralph Towner, a famous artist all over the world, Mariella/Magdala Lo Sardo goes over some steps of Jesus’ s life and his Passion, observing it from a unique point of view, “different” and just like that more and more touching, through her “ public confession”, which Yourcenar gives an original and effectiveness voice, full of thoughts and actions.
The result is an extraordinary artistic couple Lo Sardo/Towner and a theatrical performance which uses the original music not only as an accompaniment but also to create an atmosphere to the text, making it always present as a personage who often begins to speak in musical interludes.
