Braggart Warrior from Miles Gloriosus by Plautus with Vincenzo Zingaro is directed by Vincenzo Zingaro (Castalia Company)
Miles Gloriosus or the “Braggart Warrior” is one of the best-known and liveliest Roman comedies. It shows Plautus at his ablest in ingenious plot construction, vivid characterization, fast moving action, and humorous dialogue.
Plautus’play, based on one or more Greek plays of unknown autorship is a complicated farce in which a vain, lustful, and stupid soldier Pyrgopolynices, is duped by his clever slave and a courtesan.
In this version, realized and directed by Vincenzo Zingaro, there is not only the character of Miles by Plauto, but also some famous characters as Skirmisher, Don Quixote, Cyranò, Gripperlion. All of them bragging and often cowardly soldiers, but surely stock characters in the comedy.
The Castalia Company, supported by the Italian Cultural Ministry and by the Art University La Sapienza in Rome, has been chosen to represent Italy at the Festival of Classical Theatre in Munich, organized by the European Community.
