Carmen Consoli

Born in Catania on September 4th 1974. She started playing the electric guitar at the early age of nine and at fourteen she performed with a cover band called the Moon Dog's Party, with a much respected repertoire. The producer, Francesco Virlinzi, witnessed the show and was struck by Carmen: she was only 15 but her talent was evident. She then participates at the Sanremo Festival with a song of great impact:" Amore di Plastica" (Plastic Love) composed with Mario Venuti. In Franco Battiato's tribute (Cyclope/Polydor) she played the "Animal" with style and originality. At the end of February 1996 her first album came out called "Due Parole" (Two words) with 12 songs. Her single "Amore di Plastica" becomes a great radio success in a couple of months. The year 1997 hits off at Sanremo with a new song: "Confusa e Felice" (Confused and Happy). This is a new wave of energy, that

shows Carmen's strength and determination. Then, it's the turn of "Mediamente isterica" (More or Less Hysterical) at less than a year and a half from "Confusa e Felice". "Besame Guida" is her first single and sets her umpteenth moment of artistic crescendo, far from "Confusa…": the album is a concentration of energy that, again, is surprising. During the tour the songs of her new album, expected in 2001, take life. But, Carmen unexpectedly, takes part again in the Sanremo Festival for the third time. This time with the beautiful song, "In Bianco e Nero" (In Black and White), dedicated to her mother, that will earn her an excellent 7th place. Now, as a crowning of her success, she has been awarded the Nastri d'Argento for the homonymous leit motif song for Gabriele Muccino's film, "L'Ultimo Bacio" (The last kiss).
